I had so much fun exploring the different restaurants represented at Detroit Burger Week. It was a great way for me to go beyond where I typically go for food. Unfortunately it was during a time where my schedule was already packed. Somehow I managed to make time to eat five different burgers this week at places I’ve never been to, and I wanted to highlight them for making my belly happy.

PB+B Eats: We love Kaizen Ramen in Royal Oak
Detroit_Noodle_Ninja aka. Mr. Bacon sits down at the new made in-house noodle joint in downtown Royal Oak, Kaizen Ramen. Now open for both lunch and dinner, he says there is no excuse for not checking this place out.
I have a secret. I LOVE NOODLES! All noodles. Well, more specifically, Asian noodles. Udon, Vermicelli, Soba, and Yes …RAMEN. Every city ventured, everywhere traveled, my mission is to seek out hidden, local strip mall noodle joints. We have a few local here in metro Detroit that I personally LOVE with all my heart (and a few I will never eat at again). There is a TOP THREE RAMEN post pending that should be up in a couple weeks and we may have just discovered a new contender for that coveted list: Kaizen Ramen.

#2 Summer Roll (Shrimp, Pork, Veg)
#8 Grilled Pork Chop over white rice (w/ cup of delicious onion soup)
What’s a good, quick, and affordable meal after an intense workout? We just finished playing in an all-day volleyball tournament, and we’re DRAINED and STARVING. So we needed something that can replenish our energy (carbs), repair muscles (protein) and satisfy our appetite (fats and freshness).
We recommend these pork chops (#8) and the summer rolls (#2) from our spot that started it all for us. The pork chops are juicy and easily the best in the area. What we love about the summer rolls is that, unlike most places, they add a thick piece of pork belly, making it juicer and tastier!
If you are craving a hot bowl of soup, their selection of pho is vast and full of flavor. The broth is dirty, the vegetables are fresh and the meat is tasty. We prefer to order the rare steak and tendon (we love that chewy goodness).
What’s your go-to post-workout meal?
BATTLE ROYALE: Fast-Food Gourmet Burger
In honor of the upcoming Detroit Burger Week, I thought it would be fitting for our first Dish Battle Royale to be just that: The Burger, one of America’s favorite foods. Specifically, I want to battle the burger that I’d like to call, “The Fast-Food Gourmet Burger.”
(…or as I unofficially call it, the “What’s Closest to an In-N-Out Burger Out Here?” Challenge ?).
